A Cold Win at Goose Creek

kat2017We won against Goose Creek’s softball team last night, 10-0. The weather was pretty cold. Monday’s game was canceled because of weather.

We were able to capitalize on several errors mad by Goose Creek’s defense. Our defense made our own share of mistakes. Fortunately, the Gators couldn’t take advantage.

We play Ft.Dorchester on the 17th. They have a pretty good team this year. Their coach is one of our former coaches, and he knows us pretty well. If we play well that won’t be a factor though.

You can check our wins and losses on the 2017 Softball Schedule page.

Battle of the Bases 2017

In Stratford’s first game against Hanahan they lost 3-1. Hanahan has always been a good team. We have lost to them before. They have a lot of great players. So do we though. Sometimes it takes us a little while to get going.

In our second game against the Hilton Head Island, Seahawks, we won 15-0. They seemed to be a fairly young team. They made several errors in the outfield and the infield, and, their pitcher seemed a little inexperienced.

On day 2 we stayed alive through 2 games; one against Thomas Heyward high school. We beat them 9-1. An hour later we played Edisto HS. I am guessing they are from Edisto Beach. We won that game 5-1.

Later we were to face the winner between Summerville high school and Fort Dorchester. Surprisingly, Dorchester sent Summerville packing, winning by one, 7-6.

So we were playing Dorchester for the championship. We had them beat until we made some significant errors which ended up costing us the game. The final score was 6-4.

All and all we played okay. I don’t think the girls were so far advance at this time last year. I think they are ready to play and prove they can be a championship team this year as well.

Softball Season is Back!

It is My Senior Year

I am very excited about softball season. We won the State Championship last year. I don’t know how we will do this year, but we plan to have fun. Here are a few clips from a couple of scrimmages last week.

Basketball season is over

We won more games this year than we did the previous 3 years. That’s not saying a lot. It was a marked improvement for us though. Hopefully, next year Stratford girls will have a better team than we did this year and will win a lot more games. Maybe I will get to see them play.

Next year I will be at Limestone College in Gaffney, SC. I am looking forward to it. I think college will be a blast and I can’t wait. Hope to see you at the softball field.

BCSD Athletic Scholarship Signing

img_2389-1Today was the Berkeley County Athletic Scholarship Signing. It is an official signing ceremony for athletes from around our school district. I was among some of the smartest and athletic students in the district able to obtain athletic scholarships to the school of our choice.

Some of athletes I have known since junior high school. Some of them are my friends. All of them are exceptional athletes. I am honored to be recognized with the athletic elite of our school district.

I have always loved sports, and school for that matter. My dad taught me to read when I was 4. I have read a crap load of books since then; both for my own enjoyment and school. I am looking forward to college. I am grateful to my parents, all three of them, for their constant support. I have been blessed.

The photo to the left shows Athletic Director John Chalus, Omari Johnson, and myself. Omari is going to Wafford College on a football scholarship. And as I’ve already stated in other posts, I’m going to Limestone College.

At the Capital

Honored

Last week the Stratford Knights Softball team was honored at the State Capital for winning the AAAA State Championship in 2016. It was short and sweet. They summarized the game on the house floor, and we took some pictures afterward.

After the pictures we went to a pretty good pizza restaurant called Persona. They cook their pizza in a brick or stone oven with wood. It was pretty good. I would certainly eat there again.

It was a pleasant break from my busy day at school. Soon basketball season will be over. We have had our best season yet. We have won 5 games this season. Woohoo! 🙂

I Love Basketball

The last time I posted was the day we played Goose Creek. There was no miracle! We got beat, and we got beat pretty thoroughly. Then we won against Cane Bay the Saturday following. Then we lost the next two games against Ashely Ridge and Wando. We really got clobbered in both games.

That brings us to today. We will be playing Summerville tonight at 6:00 P.M. I have no idea how good they are this year. Maybe we can pull out another win. We have already won more games this year than I expected. It’s our best year since I’ve been on the team.

Perhaps one day Stratford will be on of the best teams in the district, but it will be long after I’ve graduated. At this point we just play because we love basketball. Well, I’m sure that’s true of most of the team. Why else would we keep showing up?

Many of us make up the softball team. So we will be taking revenge (hopefully) during  softball season. Oh, if I hadn’t mentioned it before (I have), or you forgot, WE ARE THE STATE CHAMPIONS! Did I write that too loudly?

Oh well, if you are in the area tonight come and see us play. The game will be at Summerville high school – Summerville, SC.

3/3 Record

We have lost 3 and we have won 3.  Tonight we play Goose Creek. They usually beat us pretty badly. They are usually one of the best teams in the district.  But who knows? Maybe there will be a miracle tonight.

Our team is better this year than it was last year. It will probably be a while before Stratford girls basketball goes to the playoffs.

We won’t be giving up without a fight tonight. Goose Creek will have to earn it if they want it from us.
